[hide]Dimensions of energy
Let us use the cases of: F=Ma - force = mass × acceleration, and, E=Fℓ - Energy = Force × distance (here ℓ is used, for "ℓength")
Dimensions in play:
- [E]=ML2T−2
- [F]=MLT−2
- [a]=LT−2 for (L being length, T being time)
- [M]=M for (M being mass)
- [ℓ]=L for (L being length - as above)
- [F]=MLT−2
We could also do:
- [E]=NM "Newton Meters" - from [F]=Newtons and [L]=M
- [E]=Kg M / S / S - Kilogram meters per second per second
This will be expanded on in future
