Leads to Delta-complex - very important for algebraic topology

Definition

A CW-complex is a topological space (X,J) and a collection of disjoint open cells (open n-cells of various dimensions), {eα}αI where X=αIeα, such that[1]:

  1. (X,J) is Hausdorff
  2. For each open m-cell, e{eα}αI, there exists a continuous map, fα:¯BnX such that:
  3. A set AP(X) is closed if and only if A¯eα is closed for each αI
