Theorem statement

Given a set SP(Ω) (where P(Ω) denotes the power set of Ω) there exists[1] a smallest σ-algebra which we denote σ(S) such that:

  • Sσ(S) where σ(S)=AP(Ω) is a σ-algebraSAA

We say:

  • σ(S) the σ-algebra generated by S
  • S the generator of σ(S)
